About MBSR
MBSR is an evidence-based, transformative 8-week course that offers simple, powerful methods for improving our quality of life, enhancing our ability to manage stress, illness, and chronic pain, and increasing our capacity for balance and joy.
This renowned program was created by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970’s. Set in a supportive environment, the course includes guided instruction in a wide variety of mindfulness practices (including meditation and gentle movement), group discussions, and home assignments designed to help participants integrate mindfulness into their lives.
Course Logistics
The MBSR program is most effective when participants make a personal commitment to their own well-being and participate in each of the course components, which include the following:
Orientation (2 hours): This sets the foundation for the course.
8 Weekly Classes (2.5 hours each): Each class explores a new topic, including guided meditation practices, conceptual material, discussion, and related home practice. Note that the first and last classes are each 3 hours long.
All Day Retreat (7.5 hours): This special day occurs during the second half of the program, offering the opportunity for deeper practice and understanding.
Daily Home Practice (45-60 minutes): An extensive library of recorded meditations and other supporting material is available exclusively for our participants.
If you are interested in becoming an MBSR teacher, this course qualifies as the first step on the MBSR teacher training path. If you complete all course components, you will be eligible for a certificate of completion for the course. If you are looking for the official, current, in-depth MBSR curriculum, taught by a seasoned, inclusive, skilled, and caring teacher, this is it!
Research & Benefits
The evidence-based MBSR is often referred to as the gold standard in mindfulness programs and has been taught globally for 40+ years. Scientific research and evidence supports wide-ranging benefits to physical, emotional, and mental well-being, including:
Increased resilience and reduced levels of perceived stress and burnout
Decreased symptoms for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, heart disease, and other health challenges
Improved attention and emotion regulation, which are associated with increased mental clarity, creativity, and more skillful ways of responding
Down-regulation of genes associated with inflammation
A greater capacity for compassion, joy, and more!
Please note that MBSR is a complement to traditional medical and psychological treatments, not a replacement for them.

Testimonials
Our intention in offering MBSR is to support others in living with greater happiness, health, and balance by helping them integrate mindfulness into their lives. This is reflected in our participants’ testimonials.
“As a long-time mindfulness and yoga practitioner prior to this course, I appreciated Karyn's ability to relate with both brand-new practitioners as well as those with more experience; her unfailing kindness and the way she lives out her practice "in the real world;" as well as the full range and scope of materials and practices she includes as part of the course. I also admired the way Karyn would gently and yet firmly keep the course and participants from getting off-track. I would highly recommend Karyn and this course!”
“While the world was feeling chaotic, uncertain and dark, this mindfulness course was invaluable for inner peace. The practices taught me how to kindle that little light inside myself that is helping me stay grounded, unafraid and grateful. The concepts and practices are so simple that inner change is attainable within the time of the course. The timing was one of the silver linings of the pandemic for me.”
“Karyn's MBSR class had a tremendous impact on my ability to cope with my challenging chronic pain condition. My anxiety and pain levels have diminished and I am now better at appreciating and noticing all the positive things in the world around me. The variety of meditations that Karyn offers allowed me to use the ones best suited for me and helped me to be okay with doing only what I was capable of.”
”Karyn is an exceptional teacher who really cares about her students. She is extremely well organized and presents all the material in an interesting and enthusiastic manner. This course has helped me relax, deal with stress, and sleep better."
